This weekend I went to visit my friend Jason in DC. Jason and I met in undergrad at UK, and bonded quickly over a love for Wednesday nights at Campus Pub and Tolly Ho. We actually worked together too for a short time at UK Athletics the summer before senior year. After graduation, Jason and I both ended up in the Cincinnati area, him for law school then ended up in DC after he took the bar exam. He has been suggesting a visit for quite some time, and back in April, I thought I needed a fun random trip to look forward to. That brings us to this weekend and our fun reunion in DC!
Jason and I out in Cincinnati
On a walk home from the bars in college…sad to be seniors 😉 Forever 21 outfit and in desperate need of an eyebrow wax…
Friday I cut it too close for comfort getting to the airport. I arrived in Dayton at 11:15 for a 12:05 flight, then took in the sights of my favorite people watching spot. I got ideas for travel outfits, had luggage envy and overall just enjoyed the journey of getting to DC.
Jason met me at the train station and we rode the Metro to his apartment, which was near the baseball stadium downtown. We spent some time catching up, before heading to ‘Jazz in the Park’. Live music and sangria, yes please! Somehow during our pitcher of sangria we ended up sitting with the drummer in the band. Nicole Falzone is not only a musician, but also a world famous Etch-A-Sketch artist! She was such a nice person and was so intelligent. We walked back outside with her when it was time for the next set and I danced with an older gentleman that told me not to dance ‘American’. I’m sure I did.
After we had our fill, we went to meet Jason’s new girlfriend, Maura for drinks and dinner. I had the most delicious burger and then we decided to call it an early night so we could get up and sightsee in the morning. Man, we are old.
Saturday bright and early Jason and I walked to the Capitol, where he immediately switched into tour guide mode rattling off facts I didn’t even know. He showed me around on a private tour and the building was gorgeous.
Then we headed to Chinatown area, saw the Ford’s Theatre and popped into a Smithsonian.
Then it was time for one of the social events that Jason especially wanted me to see in DC – ‘brunch’. We went to a place called Local 16 that had a special $18 for an entree and unlimited bloody Mary, mimosa or beer. Needless to say, we stayed until 4, made friends with the group next to us and were well on our way for a fun evening.
We left there and went to a party at Maura’s friends house, armed with two bottles of white wine. Then we ended up at a Mexican restaurant with a bunch of her friends. We ended the night early after an exhausting, but super fun day.
Sunday I woke up and unfortunately already had to leave DC. I had such a great time with Jason and catching up! I made it back to Dayton by 3 and to my sister’s final wedding shower by 4:30. Next up, bachelorette party in Nashville in a few weeks!
I wish I could say my weekend ended there with an early bedtime, but no such luck. I ended up having a Sunday Funday evening with a few friends.
Which is why I felt like this on Monday morning…
Cheers!
